More about GUALT

Hand-stitching started this whole thing. It’s how everyone has made any clothes, besides the last 200 years. The intentionality of a slowly and strongly made garment, and the joy of wearing something made to fit, made with minimal or zero waste. That’s what I want to give to you.

Last year I bought a loom on a whim. It had been gathering dust at Barnsley college for years, and needed a new home. It was even in my kitchen for a while. Once I figured out it was used to make rugs, I decided to learn all about weaving rugs. I love fabric and fibre, and I know that the best fibre for a rug is wool. Not the finest, softest merino, but good old-fashioned wool. I love wool, and I’m vegan. So I thought that this might be a chance, purely because I’m never going to work on a huge commercial scale, to make slaughter-free sheep’s wool rugs. That means that I source the wool from people who have sheep as pets, or at sanctuary’s. Sheep that will never be destined for slaughter. And I pick, clean, spin, naturally dye, and see the wool all the way from shorn fleece to full-0n beautiful rug. My hope is that I can make rugs for the kinds of people who can own this and happily say that there is an ethical way to harvest and use wool, and that their gorgeous rugs would last for generations.

Let’s work together.
